Semaglutide and tirzepatide are both compounded GLP-1 agonist medications used in Refinery Skin Clinic’s medically-assisted weight loss program. Although very similar, they differ in their composition and mechanisms of action. Semaglutide (brand name Ozempic®) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that primarily stimulates insulin secretion in response to meals and reduces glucagon secretion, which helps lower blood sugar levels. It also promotes weight loss by increasing feelings of fullness. In contrast, tirzepatide (brand name Mounjaro® and Zepbound®), is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it activates both the GLP-1 and GIP pathways, which can enhance insulin secretion and further improve glycemic control. This dual action may also lead to more significant weight loss compared to semaglutide for some clients. While both medications are effective for weight loss, the distinct mechanisms of tirzepatide may offer additional benefits for some patients.

At Refinery Skin Clinic, our medically-assisted weight loss program is highly customized to each client. We consider your current weight, overall health, and provide behavioral support to improve your relationship with food, as well as supplemental support to address any nutritional gaps and deficiencies. You’re not just a number to us, you’re a unique individual on a journey to better health.
All programs are personally executed by Refinery Skin Clinic founder and nurse practitioner Rebecca Suess. Rebecca provides the medical oversight to safely and effectively manage GLP-1 agonist-assisted weight loss and shares invaluable insights and experience as someone who has lost 100 lbs. through medically assisted weight loss herself! Rebecca’s unique combination of personal experience and professional qualifications ensures that you receive the highest level of care and support on your weight loss journey.
Before and After
VISIT #1
A consultation is required to ensure you are a good candidate for GLP-1 agonist weight loss therapy before treatment can commence at Refinery Skin Clinic. During this appointment, you will discuss your current challenges and goals with Rebecca, and she will give an overview of how GLP-1 agonists work, all risks and potential contraindications, and establish realistic expectations to have while on a medically-assisted weight loss program.
If it is determined that you are an appropriate candidate for semaglutide or tirzepatide, Rebecca will order a baseline series of weight loss labs to provide further insight into your metabolic health and designate starting values that can be tracked and monitored for improvements throughout your program.
*If it is determined that you are not a candidate for GLP-1 agonists as a weight loss method, other medications will be discussed that may also be effective solutions to help you reach your weight loss goals!
Visit #2
At your second medically-assisted weight loss appointment, Rebecca will review your labs with you to identify areas of improvement. You will receive your GLP-1 agonist welcome packet outlining all the program’s important information. You will also receive a complimentary InBody Scan ($100 value) to capture your starting weight and body fat percentage so that it can be tracked throughout your visits. From there, you will schedule out your weekly appointments to receive your injections of either semaglutide or tirzepatide on-site at Refinery Skin Clinic.
Month One
Weekly visits with Rebecca Suess, MSN, RN, APRN, CNP, AGPCNP-BC, CPSN, CANS, ISPAN-F
During your first month on Refinery Skin Clinic’s medically-assisted weight loss program, you will have weekly visits with Rebecca to learn how to self-administer your injections, discuss recommended diet and exercise protocols, address any supplements that may be beneficial for you, manage any side effects and symptoms, adjust your dosing, and track your progress. You will also receive complimentary B-12 injections at these appointments to boost energy and potentially accelerate fat loss.
After your first month, you won’t be left to navigate your weight loss journey alone. You can continue your program from home with self-administered injections, and each week, you’ll check in with Rebecca to track your progress and discuss any challenges. This can be done by virtual appointments, email, text – whatever fits your lifestyle best! Once a month, you’ll return to Refinery Skin Clinic for a refill and weigh-in. You can also receive a B-12 injection at a discounted rate during this visit. We’re here for you every step of the way.
Three months after starting your medical-assisted weight loss program at Refinery Skin Clinic, Rebecca will repeat your three-month lab work to see how GLP-1 agonist peptide therapy has improved your metabolic health and other blood values. In office visits are required to obtain your refills for the first six months on semaglutide or tirzepatide. After which, you will either continue with the program or a customized maintenance protocol will be recommended to maintain your results!
